Wine at the Colibri Wine Bar

Central Coast Wines

Central Coast Wines

If you haven’t visited the El Colibri Hotel and Spa, you have yet to discover our Colibri Wine Bar. What makes wine at the Colibri Wine Bar special is our ability to discover and source rare, boutique wines from the Edna Valley and Paso Robles Wine Regions. We’re dedicated to sourcing an ever changing collection of these hard to find wines. Each Saturday we hold a special wine tasting to introduce that week’s wine “find” to our guests.

While at the Colibri Wine Bar, you’ll enjoy usually a three tiered tasting of wines typically only available directly from the local wineries. To accompany these lovely wines, we offer several selections of freshly made tapas as well as live music from local musicians. The Saturday wine and music evening starts at 6 p.m. and lasts to 9 p.m. – though the wine sampling will be available until 11 p.m.

Plan your next Saturday to enjoy some wine at the Colibri Wine Bar.

Enjoy our discoveries!

Massage

Massage

Yes, we know they feel great, but are there other benefits to a massage?

According to www.massagetherapy.com, there are many reasons to enjoy a massage:

“The Benefits Of Massage
What exactly are the benefits of receiving massage or bodywork treatments? Useful for all of the conditions listed below and more, massage can:

  • Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
  • Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
  • Ease medication dependence.
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system.
  • Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
  • Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
  • Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ—the skin.
  • Increase joint flexibility.
  • Lessen depression and anxiety.
  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
  • Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improvingcirculation.
  • Reduce postsurgery adhesions and swelling.
  • Reduce spasms and cramping.
  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
  • Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
  • Relieve migraine pain.

A Powerful Ally
There’s no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates into:

  • Decreased anxiety.
  • Enhanced sleep quality.
  • Greater energy.
  • Improved concentration.
  • Increased circulation.
  • Reduced fatigue.

Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.”

With all these benefits, there are plenty of reasons to enjoy a massage by our trained therapists the next time you visit the El Colibri Hotel and Spa.

Walking Moonstone Beach

Walking Moonstone Beach.

Moonstone Beach

Moonstone Beach

The weather has been beautiful on the beach – scattered white fluffy clouds with a deep blue sky. More days than not a gentle wind wafts along the walkway overlooking Moonstone Beach. If you like to snuggle your toes in the sand then take the stairs down the the sand, if not enjoy the views from the boardwalk perched about the beach. Whether on the sand or boardwalk you’ll see lots of wildlife and beautiful views.

The boardwalk offers several benches to sit and relax for a while. You’ll encounter friendly folks with their dogs out for a similarly relaxing walk on beach. Be sure to take your camera – the sun glimmering off the rolling waves are what memories are made of.

Nitt Witt Ridge

Nitt Witt Ridge

What is Nitt Witt Ridge? It’s historical landmark sign reads as follow:

“Nitt Witt Ridge, one of California’s remarkable twentieth-century folk-art environments, is the creation of Arthur Harold Beal (Der Tinkerpaw, or Capt. Nitt Witt), a Cambria Pines pioneer who sculpted the land using hand tools and indigenous materials, inventiveness and self-taught skills. A blend of native materials and contemporary elements, impressive in its sheer mass and meticulous placement, it is a revealing memorial to Art’s cosmic humor and zest for life.”

The house sits on 2.5 acres in Cambria. Art Beal bought the lot in 1928 and spend the next 50 years building and adding to the remarkable structure. For materials he used what other Cambrians were discarding and after working a stint during the building of Hearst Castle, reportedly also used some “remnants” from the castle.

Currently Michael and Stacey O’Malley are the owners of Nitt Witt Ridge and offer guided tours of the property. Tours are available by reservation.

Enjoy a Perfect Burger at Sebastian’s

A Perfect Burger

A Perfect Burger

Enjoy a perfect burger at Sebastian’s in San Simeon. There is such a thing as a “perfect burger”. It starts with the best hamburger available, in this case Hearst Ranch beef. Add to that smokey bacon, fresh avocados from Morro Bay and home-baked bread and you’ve got a great start!

We found Sebastian’s after a day at the San Simeon beach. The restaurant is tucked back along a frontage road that parallels Hwy 1 – just after you pull into the entrance to San Simeon Beach. Since most are so eager to hit the beach, they fail to meander the back road and happen upon this little find. The shop is located in an old whaling building that now houses Hearst Ranch winery as well as the sandwich shop. In addition to burgers you’ll find awesome fries and onion rings, as well as super-delicious sandwiches – we tried the turkey with avocado and cranberry sauce and it was outstanding. With Hearst Ranch tasting room in the same building, you can enjoy a glass of wine with your sandwich.

Centrally Grown

Centrally Grown

One of our favorite restaurants, “The Hamlet” has been sold and is now operating as Centrally Grown. The new owners have brought a welcome addition for ‘things to do’ in the Cambria area by offering a multi-use property for tourists and locals alike. You’ll find a cafe and bar, a specialty market offering a large collection of locally procured goods such as cheeses, wines, olive oils, as well as a deli counter with daily specials, a catering service and beautiful grounds featuring a garden nursery.

Additionally, on the site you’ll find garden paths to wander, interesting art along the paths, a gift shop and plenty of little ‘nooks’ to sit and relax. The emphasis in Centrally Grown’s offering is sustainable, fresh, local products, of which you’ll find plenty! They have a great wine selection of hard to find local wines at reasonable prices.

Whether you are a camper from the campground down the road, a local resident looking for a great supply of local food product, or someone passing through the area, Centrally Grown makes a nice stop.

Willie Nelson in Concert!

Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson

No denying Willie Nelson has been around for a long time … and has collected an assortment of fans who enjoy his music. If you are one of these folks, then mark your calendar for July 21, 2015 to see Willie Nelson in concert!. According to his biography:

“Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.”

Willie Nelson and his band will be playing at the Vine Robles Ampitheater in Paso Robles. Tickets cost $60 – $135 depending upon seating location. Get your tickets here. Enjoy Willie Nelson in concert!

Paso Robles Park Concerts

Paso Robles Park

Paso Robles Park

Living on the Central Coast, we are incredibly lucky to have so many different communities offering free summer concerts. One of our favorites takes place in the downtown historical park in Paso Robles. Starting Thursday, June 18th, the city rolls out the welcome matts for locals and visitors alike to join in the fun at the downtown park. A wide variety of music genres will be presented throughout the summer – you’re sure to find some tunes you like! Add to the music, local wineries, Firestone-Walker, and a variety of local food venders will be present to make assembling your “picnic” super-easy.

Or, if half the fun is creating your own picnic to pack for the event consider a visit to one of our local cheese shops (DiRamona and Vivant). And, don’t forget a visit to one of our 15 downtown tasting rooms to pick up a bottle or two of your favorite wine. There’s plenty to choose from!

The nice thing about Paso Robles’ Park Concerts is that it truly is a family event. You’ll see families congregate with the little one’s enjoying the fun as much as their parents. For a trip back in time to Old Time Americana don’t miss the Paso Robles Park Concerts.
