I’m not sure what it is, but I do LOVE Valentine’s Day. Admittedly, I’ve always had a ‘thing’ for hearts, and, in fact, have a beautiful red stone heart paperweight sitting aside me as I write this. Hearts show up in other places in my home, too. Like the funky little string of wooden hearts that hang by a piece of twine over a photo of my children, and the 4′ x 4′ modern painting of repeating hearts that hangs above my bed. So, yeah, I guess you could say I do have a thing for hearts.
Valentine’s Day brings my secret love of hearts out of hiding and I get to relish in the many new forms the beloved heart is taking these days. Well yes, there are always paper hearts, and hearts fashioned into ‘Art’ of one kind or another, but each year I look forward to yet another way for the heart to reveal it’s form.
This year, believe it or not, my local butcher was inspired to create something special for his customers to serve on Valentine’s Day – Two of the best steaks you can buy joined together into what looks to be a Valentine’s Heart! Now, that’s a first! I never thought of the man as sentimental, but I guess he is – maybe.
Anyway, as Valentine’s Day rolls around and the hearts come out of hiding, have fun this year taking a minute or two to really look at them. Do you find any that, perhaps touch you in some special way? Well, if so – Get it and share it with your loved one. Chances are that heart spoke to something deep within you, and sharing that with the person you love will be a special event.
My husband did this with me one year. He found a picture of a heart with a hummingbird on it – fluttering it’s wings. He told me he bought it for me because “I made his heart flutter like the hummingbird’s wings.” And that was the start of my love affair with hearts….
