My Secret to Mental Health: “The Stormy SeaWalk” Ritual

We have a storm coming into the area and one of my favorite things to do is walk a stormy beach. Cambria beaches are perfect. I love that feeling of the wind whipping my hair, splashing my face with rain and saltwater, and watching the waves rise in towers of immense blue crushing power.

All that 'important stuff' I've been fretting over seems ...not quite so important. I run, splash, yell, curse, pray, smile and sometimes even cry at the beauty and ferocity of nature.

By the time I'm totally soaked (and chilled to the bone), I also seem to have found this calmness, otherwise unattainable through conventional means. Step 2: Get the warmth back into my old bones. The Colibri Spa is perfect for my 'stormy seawalk ritual' because it's right off the beach and gives me a special refuge for my "Step 2". I hit the Spa - Steamroom first, then the jacuzzi (I love sitting in a hot jazucci in the rain), steamroom again - topped off by a massage. Hint: Call before you head to the beach (805) 924 3003 to book your massage - as they ask for at least an hour's notice.

There is something so completely healing about this 'stormy seawalk ritual' of mine. I guess witnessing the ravages of nature does something to heal the psyche, and the body treatments at the spa do something similarly for the body.

While I'm on it, the products used at the spa are really quite special. My favorite is the SacredEarth Botanicals Warming Lotion which uses organic cinnamon oil and organic menthol crystals to create a soothing heat all over my body - it smells and feels divine!

So...If you are at all in that space where you just might need an 'attitude adjustment', try "The Stormy Seawalk" ritual - It should be a great weekend for it!
