Cambria Beach Walks
Cambria is such a wonderful place for a bit of R&R—whether you are taking the scenic drive down from San Francisco or a local just popping by for a little “staycation.” There is so much that our wonderful village can offer—from the many galleries and artist initiatives to the delicious restaurant, to our very own Colibri Spa, to the serene and stunning Moonstone Beach.
If you’re joining us in Cambria to get a bit of nature in your life, you’ll certainly want to hit up some of the nature trails along Moonstone Beach (and remember, the Colibri is just a short jaunt away from Moonstone Beach!). There are tons of trails available in the area either just a short walk or drive away.
Leffingwell Landing Trail
If you want a hike that is located close to the village of Cambria and Moonstone Beach, this one is for you. Begin at Shamel Park (Windsor Boulevard North) for 1.9 miles north to Leffingwell Landing on Moonstone Beach or on bluff trail adjacent to Moonstone Beach Drive. You’ll find yourself not only in a beautiful setting but also catching glimpses of sea birds, occasional sea otters, and if you’re especially lucky on your walk you might even see the migrating California Gray Whales.
San Simeon Beach State Park
This lovely hike is located a bit north of us in San Simeon (home of the famous Hearst Castle). As you make your way up Highway One, Park on north side of the highway near San Simeon Creek bridge. You’ll find that the boardwalk is a good start your hike if you’re interested in a low-impact and short walk, but another excellent trail begins at its end and continues south across the wetland and up into the pine trees. If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a side trail to an overlook above San Simeon Creek and the Park. As you head up into the hills, the trail can become moderately difficult at times so we suggest that if you have issues walking or hiking more than 3 or 4 miles that you stick with the boardwalk or the Leffingwell Landing Trail.
There are many other great hiking trails in the area so if you are interested in seeing a bit of nature and enjoying yourself outdoors, please speak with the hotel concierge to get a map of the area and some suggestions for hikes!
