Central Coast Railroad Festival

Were you one of those kids who couldn’t get enough of trains, planes, and automobiles? Do you have one of those kids? Well, if you were or if you have one, have I ever got the event for you.

The Central Coast is playing host to one of the very best railroad festivals in California. Join us and other likeminded railroad enthusiasts in San Luis Obispo County to learn about and celebrate the innovations of the railroad. The whole shebang starts on October 6 right in Atascadero where you will be able to see some fantastic scale models and learn more about all the great CCRRF Events (more information can also be found on their website and on this PDF of their schedule of events). Be prepared for a pretty full weekend if you’re in town because there are 56 (yes, that’s right 5-6) events over the course of four days. From layouts, to workshops, to a booth at the Farmer’s Market, to concerts. It’s fun, it’s filled, and it’s ready for you!

This is a great excuse to teach your kids a bit about California’s history (of which the railroads played a very important part). While we’re on the Railroad theme, you might wan to take your kids for a trip to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. Here you’ll learn everything there is to know about California’s railroad history!

And don’t make like an abandoned puppy looking for a new home. I see this too often: the poster is decently interesting, and people slow down to read it. Out of nowhere the poster owner appears, in newly-pressed business formals, and nestles in next the hapless visitor, practically jumping up and down in forlorn excitement, with large, wet eyes screaming “please, please, ohh puhuleeeze ask me anything about my poster!!”Faced with the possibility of being pinned against this poster for half the entire session, anybody sane is going to feign acute disinterest and beat a hasty retreat.Short version: people are busy. No matter what their interest in your work they’ll have have a scant few minutes for your poster, and any sign that you’re going to buttonhole them for longer than that is a sure way of scaring people away.
