El Colibri and Open Studios Tour 2010
Things are really bubbling in Cambria - actually all of the County, with the wine harvest and the Open Studios 2010 tour over the next few weekends. This weekend in particular looks to be expecially chocked full of fun: Live music at the Colibri Wine Bar (starting at 6 p.m.) with Jill Knight, and a town overflowing with art and artists (many, in fact, inviting you into their own homes to showcase their art). Pssst, and it's all FREE!
I've been on the Open Studios Tour every year for the last four, and it is one of my favorite activities. Where else are you invited into artists' studios/homes to see their art, and have a downright personal conversation as the art is being created before your very eyes? The other thing that's cool about the tour is that (1) it's free (but you already knew that), and (2) you get a map which shows the location of all the participating artists, and (3) you drive yourself, at your own pace so go can decide how many or few places to stop. O.K. - that's more than one cool thing - maybe now you can see why I love this event!
Need a few hints of where to start? Right in Cambria and within a short drive from Colibri you'll find some of my favorite artists: Sue Johnson (oils), Judy Maynard (stained glass), Lucil Ryan (bronze and ceramic), Shirley Pittman (watercolor, oil, acrylic) and don't leave without a piece of Lori Traylor's Jewelry. It's true: this beautiful place called Cambria attracts artists who wish to translate that beauty through their art.
