Guac & Marg Festival in Morro Bay
What are the two BEST things on earth (now, before you start thinking about world peace or a mother’s love….think with your stomach!) – Avocados and Margaritas! Wasn’t there ever a more perfect pair? The delicious creamy, spicy goodness of guac and the salty, sweet and refreshing taste of a margarita. There is nothing that takes me to a place of relaxation quite like the combo. It reminds me of summer nights spent on the beach in Baja California, being carefree, my most favorite Mexican restaurant, and being lucky enough to have grown up in an avocado region (not everything is this lucky, I’ve come to understand). This year on September 17th, Morro Bay is playing host to the 5th Annual Avocado and Margarita Festival. You see, it seems like it’s not just me! Come down to the festival at the Morro Bay Embaracdero from 11am until 6pm to sample a huge variety of guacs – you’ll be sure to find one that fits your taste buds. (You’ll also come to understand that when it comes to guac everyone does it a bit differently – I, for one, am a purest, I like my avocados with just a bit of tomato and a spice. But the avocado really does need to shine). As for the margs, Cabo Wabo Tequila is going to be supplying them. You can get a good ole regular margarita or if you’re feeling adventurous, try out some of their different flavors. I once had a mango flavored margarita that really want to die for.

The festival is held outside on the Embaradero in downtown Morro Bay. Be sure to check out all the different local guacamoles and other avocado-based recipes while you are there. If you will be drinking, make sure you bring a designated driver so that no one is on the road after enjoying the margaritas! And now, take one guess, how does a festival devoted to my two most favorite things get just a teensy tiny bit better? Add in some live music! Top central coast bands will be playing all day while you enjoy the weekend weather and good eats.
Do you have a special food combo that takes you back to a special time? Maybe it’s chicken noodle soup on a cold snowy day (not in SLO!) or fresh lemonade. Tell us all about it here!
