Happy Acres Goat Farm Tour and Lunch with Sunset Food Editor Margo True

Sunset Magazine’s Savor the Central Coast is quickly approaching but we’re not letting up on getting you all the juicy details about the event. Following with our posts on the Morro Bay Oyster Company tour and the Montana de Oro Hike and Lunch, we wanted to tell you about a very unusual opportunity that Sunset is bringing to us on the Central Coast. Savor is hosting a tour of Happy Acres Goat Farm in Templeton followed by lunch with the Sunset Magazine Food Editor Margo True. Happy Acres is a working dairy farm run by four women and their families – only one thing is slightly different from this dairy farm compared with others. Happy Acres is comprised of a herd of more than 200 goats in four unique breeds. The dairy farmers and their loving families milk the goats to produce natural cheeses, ice creams, body and hand lotions, and soaps – all this from goat milk. Goat milk is good for producing these sorts of products because it has an especially high butterfat content.

During the tour, which takes places between 10 am and 2 pm on September 30, you’ll have the chance to milk some of the 200 goats and even learn about making goat cheese hands on. This is truly an artesian farm operated and owned by four lovely ladies who not only know their stuff, but are also passionate and involved in the burgeoning foodie community here on the Central Coast. Nothing exemplifies this major movement our region has been undergoing more than the efforts of these fine families and their extraordinarily delicious goat milk products that they create.

We are lucky enough at the El Colibri, to be close to Templeton and to see the fine products from the Happy Acres Farm around town. Make sure you take a look at the farmer’s market and in some of our great specialty stores to see if you can find some!
