Visit the Children’s Museum!
When I was a kid, I remember LOVING the Children’s Museum in San Luis Obispo. It’s always different approaching these sorts of things as an adult – things never seem so large, so grand, so amazing as when you’re 3 feet high and 40 pounds. But I still think, so this day, that it’s one of the coolest places for little kids to learn, expand their brains, and spend a fun afternoon. There are so many great activities for kids (and you won’t be bored either) from creating a kid-sized bubble (with a kid inside!) to digging up dino bones and much more.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the SLO Children’s Museum offers some special events each month. This coming Saturday August 20th, make sure to join loads of other families at the museum to meet several different types of bats and learn tons of bat facts. You’ll never know an animal could be so interesting! On Sunday, take in Squidtastic – an awesome exhibition where kids learn all about the different properties of air and water and they’ll even be able to create their own glow in the dark squid to take home. Finally, on Wednesday August 24th, be sure to return to the museum and learn all about Blubber and why it is so important in so many animals’ lives – what is the point of blubber? What are the benefits? And what does it feel like all over your hands?
The Museum is closed on Monday and has limited hours the remaining days of the week. Be sure to visit the website to check for opening times and future events. The museum is located at 1010 Nipomo St. right in downtown San Luis Obispo. It’s the perfect stop off point while you’re out and around town having lunch and enjoying the beautiful creek.
