A Perfect Burger
Enjoy a perfect burger at Sebastian’s in San Simeon. There is such a thing as a “perfect burger”. It starts with the best hamburger available, in this case Hearst Ranch beef. Add to that smokey bacon, fresh avocados from Morro Bay and home-baked bread and you’ve got a great start!
We found Sebastian’s after a day at the San Simeon beach. The restaurant is tucked back along a frontage road that parallels Hwy 1 – just after you pull into the entrance to San Simeon Beach. Since most are so eager to hit the beach, they fail to meander the back road and happen upon this little find. The shop is located in an old whaling building that now houses Hearst Ranch winery as well as the sandwich shop. In addition to burgers you’ll find awesome fries and onion rings, as well as super-delicious sandwiches – we tried the turkey with avocado and cranberry sauce and it was outstanding. With Hearst Ranch tasting room in the same building, you can enjoy a glass of wine with your sandwich.
Discover Centrally Grown in Cambria, California.
One of our favorite restaurants, “The Hamlet” has been sold and is now operating as Centrally Grown. The new owners have brought a welcome addition for ‘things to do’ in the Cambria area by offering a multi-use property for tourists and locals alike. You’ll find a cafe and bar, a specialty market offering a large collection of locally procured goods such as cheeses, wines, olive oils, as well as a deli counter with daily specials, a catering service and beautiful grounds featuring a garden nursery.
Additionally, on the site you’ll find garden paths to wander, interesting art along the paths, a gift shop and plenty of little ‘nooks’ to sit and relax. The emphasis in Centrally Grown’s offering is sustainable, fresh, local products, of which you’ll find plenty! They have a great wine selection of hard to find local wines at reasonable prices.
Whether you are a camper from the campground down the road, a local resident looking for a great supply of local food product, or someone passing through the area, Centrally Grown makes a nice stop.
Centrally Grown is located at 7432 Exotic Garden Drive off Hwy 1 as you leave Cambria and head toward San Simeon. Their phone number is 800.717.4379

No denying Willie Nelson has been around for a long time … and has collected an assortment of fans who enjoy his music. If you are one of these folks, then mark your calendar for July 21, 2015 to see Willie Nelson in concert!. According to his biography:
“Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.”
Willie Nelson and his band will be playing at the Vine Robles Ampitheater in Paso Robles. Tickets cost $60 – $135 depending upon seating location. Get your tickets here. Enjoy Willie Nelson in concert!
Paso Robles Park
Living on the Central Coast, we are incredibly lucky to have so many different communities offering free summer concerts. One of our favorites takes place in the downtown historical park in Paso Robles. Starting Thursday, June 18th, the city rolls out the welcome matts for locals and visitors alike to join in the fun at the downtown park. A wide variety of music genres will be presented throughout the summer – you’re sure to find some tunes you like! Add to the music, local wineries, Firestone-Walker, and a variety of local food venders will be present to make assembling your “picnic” super-easy.
Or, if half the fun is creating your own picnic to pack for the event consider a visit to one of our local cheese shops (DiRamona and Vivant). And, don’t forget a visit to one of our 15 downtown tasting rooms to pick up a bottle or two of your favorite wine. There’s plenty to choose from!
The nice thing about Paso Robles’ Park Concerts is that it truly is a family event. You’ll see families congregate with the little one’s enjoying the fun as much as their parents. For a trip back in time to Old Time Americana don’t miss the Paso Robles Park Concerts.
Let’s face it;we all need a little luxury now and then. It might be enjoying a smooth, velvety wine that costs more than we usually spend, or perhaps that pair of shoes that looked perfect on but was way over the budget, or maybe it’s just indulging in a little escape from the day to day. Luxury is truly, all in the eyes of the beholder.
Let me offer up one of my ideas of luxury – a stay at the El Colibri Hotel and Spa. For me, luxury is the ability to remove myself from the day to day demands of work and life and immerse myself in a beautiful new environment where I can relax and refill myself with energy and enthusiasm for life. The El Colibri gives me just that sort of getaway. From the moment I walk through the front door, my mind clicks into a different setting. It says something like this: slow down, enjoy, relax. And while my mind may be leading the way, the El Colibri has never failed to deliver. The rooms with their cool restful color palettes, the super-soft linens on the bed, the modern hip wine bar and easy access to long walks along the beach make my stay at the El Colibri nothing short luxurious.
What’s your definition of luxury?
